With $2.2 billion dollars in revenue in 2024 – a 13% increase over the previous year – the audiobook industry continues its unbridled growth. More books than ever are being produced in audio format, and independent authors and small publishers are looking to narrators and producers for professional input on what it takes to get their book into the audiobook market.
It is more important than ever that authors and small publishers are getting clear, accurate, comprehensive information as they enter our booming industry.
That’s where we come in.
As the preeminent organization by and for Professional Narrators, we have an incredible opportunity to help guide newcomers to the industry. That not only includes new narrators and producers, but also independent authors, small presses and publishers, and organizations serving their interests.
This is the outward facing heart of PANA: bringing our extraordinary knowledge, expertise and experience to the creatives who can benefit from it the most.
Authors and small publishers are often apprehensive about getting started, viewing the process as confusing or cost-prohibitive. They may be considering AI-generated narration as a simple and cheaper alternative. Providing a real, human connection fosters the idea that humans do it best, that creativity is a uniquely human endeavor. Through networking, education and personal connections, we become partners and collaborators. We remind authors of the emotional depth, nuance, clarity and connection that only a human voice brings to their work. We make the whole process more approachable, while demonstrating the value of working with a professional narrator.
PANAmbassador is expanding the ways in which narrators can connect with authors and small presses. By attending conferences and networking events—leading panels, Q&As, workshops and more—we can share best practices about everything audio. From getting started, to casting, production, marketing, and DEI initiatives, PANAmbassadors guide authors to the creation of world-class audiobooks.
